Review: Truly, Madly by. Heather Webber (last post of 2009)

Title: Truly, Madly                                Author: Heather Webber
Age Range: 15+
Publication Date: February 2, 2010
Pages: 320
Series: stand alone title, other titles by author: The Nina Quinn Mystery Series
Rating: 9/10

Synopsis from Goodreads: Meet Lucy Valentine; sassy, fabulously original…and psychic.

Lucy hails from a long line of matchmakers known as Valentine INC. According to family legend, the Valentines have been blessed by Cupid with the ability to help couples find true love. Trouble is Lucy’s powers were zapped away by an electrical surge and now all she can find are lost objects.

But what good is that in the matchmaking world?

Lucy is about to find out when she tries to solve a murder and winds up falling
into a romance of her own.

Review:  Heather Webber combines a great suspence filled mystery, a casual romance, and a spunky main character that had me rooting for her in all aspects of the book!!!

I am not usually a mystery reader, they tend to annoy me a great deal. With all the useless clues, and annoying detectives making annoying deductions, I'd rather stick to CSI, but this book changed my mind.  The reason I usually detest mystery and suspence books so much  is because I can usually predict the ending from a mile away. But in Truly Madly I still couldn't guess let alone believe the ending even a page after the huge revelation was revealed. It was completely unexpected and it didn't seem off or unrealistic, it pulled the book together and had me kicking myself for not guessing it sooner.

The romance in this book was fun to read about. You have that intially hot attraction between Lucy and Sean, and that building attraction between them throughout the book.  With unexpected occurences coming from Lucy's unusual ability invloving Sean, and the fact that Sean is a super hot former figher fighter, you can't help but love these two together.

I could really see Lucy grow and transform and become confortable in her own skin and with who she is. In the beginning of the book, I didn't think I would like Lucy's character at all. She was nice enough, but just such a pessimist. I mean in the beginning of the book, she never thought of her abilities as a gift, but more of a curse, adn she used that to pretty much justify everything in her life.  And the so called family curse that has been plauging her family since the beginning of their family tree seems to be the only thing she talks about. How do you get on with life if your letting the past control your future (wow, what a cliche thing to say, but true). I thought her pessimistic view on her life would annoy me throughout the book; it didn't. She went from thinking her abilities were what made her a huge freak to taking charge of a murder investigation and putting aside her family curse to have her own romantic experience. She really takes charge by the end of the book, and becomes a favorite character for me.

Truly, Madly is a great read for all those looking for a light read that will leave an impact, and just a mystery suspence book, or romantic read. (Just so you guys know this isn't typically a Young Adult book, but I think it would still be a great read for Young Adult readers. There are little sexual refrences but nothing too graphic).

2010 New Year's Resolutions and Blogger Resolutions

What are you guy's resolutions?

I have so much plans for 2010. Goals for my life, ughh school, athletics, and especially for my baby blog I made this year.

Blogger Resolutions:
1. Post more. At least 4 posts a week!!!

2. Review all the books I read (or at least most of them). This seems really easy since I spend an hour after I read the book texting my oblivious and uninterested friends about the book, I can just channel that into my reviews.

3. New memes.

4. More interviews. Interviewing is so much fun. And since I see journalism as a potential career, I would love to do more interviews. Interviews with not only authors, but other bloggers, and anyone else I feel like baggering with questions!!!

5.  Plan and participate in a more events. So many things going on in the blogger world, and I find myself more of a spectater than a participate. I would like to change that!!!

6. Change Rating System!!!

*Edit*  Find a layout I won't hate and  will actually like to stick to completely.

2010 Resolutions:
*Number 1* Most important: Find balance. I really need some balance in my life. Especially when it comes to school and sports. I have this nasty little habit of putting my sports before my academics. Every time im where im supposed to be with my grades, either volleyball, basketball, or track season starts up again and games that last until 11 don't go well with homework. I need to work on that!!! I see plenty of all nighters in my future.

 2. DON'T PROCRASTINATE. My weakness (this goes for blogging and school), It's going to be crazy not to procrastinate at all, but never for more than one day. No matter how far something is due for, I will start it within the first 24 hours.

3. Enjoy Life More!!!

4. Develope new workout routine (one that i can actually stick to).

5. Read or at least obtain all the books on my 2008-2009 wishlist. I have to create a new one for all the new sequels and debut books coming up 2010.

Waiting On Wednesday (9)

Gosh, its been sooo long. I miss posting, things are so hectic right now in my house with my dad's flight getting delayed from coming back from Nigeria and a bunch of other things. Ugh, families, anywayz... Heres my beautiful Waiting on Wednesday pick.

 Mistwood by. Leah Cypess
 Release Day:  April 27th 2010
Synopsis from Goodreads:  The Shifter is an immortal creature bound by an ancient spell to protect the kings of Samorna. When the realm is peaceful, she retreats to the Mistwod.

But when she is needed she always comes.

Isabel remembers nothing. Nothing before the prince rode into her forest to take her back to the castle. Nothing about who she is supposed to be, or the powers she is supposed to have.

Prince Rokan needs Isabel to be his Shifter. He needs her ability to shift to animal form, to wind, to mist. He needs her lethal speed and superhuman strength. And he needs her loyalty--because without it, she may be his greatest threat.

Isabel knows that her prince is lying to her, but she can't help wanting to protect him from the dangers and intrigues of the court . . . until a deadly truth shatters the bond between them.

Now Isabel faces a choice that threatens her loyalty, her heart . . . and
everything she thought she knew.

Wait, just take a second to gaze at that cover. Isn't it beautiful? The title font, the castle in the background, the bright green eye, all combined to make a gorgeous cover.  I can already tell that this is going to be one of my favorites. I'm a sucker for a great fantasy, and with a little romance I see!!! But you know what they say, don't judge a book by its synopisis!!!

In My Mailbox (7)

In my mailbox is a meme started by The Story Siren  and inspired by Alea at Pop Culture Junkie!!!
For Review:
Synopsis from Goodreads: Meet Lucy Valentine; sassy, fabulously original…and psychic.
Lucy hails from a long line of matchmakers known as Valentine INC. According to family legend, the Valentines have been blessed by Cupid with the ability to help couples find true love. Trouble is Lucy’s powers were zapped away by an electrical surge and now all she can find are lost objects.

But what good is that in the matchmaking world?

Lucy is about to find out when she tries to solve a murder and winds up falling into a romance of her own.

I already finished this book and it was awesome, I can't wait to review it!!!

Synopsis from BN.com: Climbing to the top of the social ladder is hard--falling from it is even harder. Regina Afton used to be a member of the Fearsome Fivesome, an all-girl clique both feared and revered by the students at Hallowell High... until vicious rumors about her and her best friend's boyfriend start going around. Now Regina's been "frozen out" and her ex-best friends are out for revenge. If Regina was guilty, it would be one thing, but the rumors are far from the terrifying truth and the bullying is getting more intense by the day. She takes solace in the company of Michael Hayden, a misfit with a tragic past who she herself used to bully. Friendship doesn't come easily for these onetime enemies, and as Regina works hard to make amends for her past, she realizes Michael could be more than just a friend... if threats from the Fearsome Foursome don't break them both first.

Tensions grow and the abuse worsens as the final days of senior year march toward an explosive conclusion in this dark new tale from the author of Cracked Up To Be.

I hear this book really gets down with the nitty gritty of high school. I cant wait to read it, I've never read a book with such a real and harsh look into high school!!!

Synopsis from BN. com:  Imagine there was never a Laguna Beach, a Newport Harbor, the shimmering Hills. Imagine that your hometown—your school—is the first place XTV descends to set up cameras.

Now imagine they've trained them on you.

When Jesse O'Rourke gets picked for a "documentary" being filmed at her school in the Hamptons she's tempted to turn down the offer. But there's a tuition check attached to being on the show, and Jesse needs the cash so she can be the first in her family to attend college. All she has to do is trade her best friend for the glam clique she's studiously avoided, her privacy for a 24/7 mike, and her sense of right and wrong for "what sells on camera." . . . At least there's one bright spot in the train wreck that is her suddenly public senior year: Jesse's crush has also made the cast.

As the producers manipulate the lives of their "characters" to heighten the drama, and Us Weekly covers become a regular occurrence for Jesse, she must struggle to remember one thing: the difference between real and the real real.

I've heard only the greatest reviews on this book!!!

 Contests:

I won these two from Staysi at Lost in Ink.

Synopsis from BN. com: Vampires, werewolves, witches, shapeshifters — they live among us without our knowledge. Night World is their secret society, a secret society with very strict rules. And falling in love breaks all the laws of the Night World.

In Secret Vampire, Poppy thought the summer would last forever. Then she was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Now Poppy's only hope for survival is James, her friend and secret love. A vampire in the Night World, James can make Poppy immortal. But first they both must risk everything to go against the laws of Night World.

Fugitives from Night World, three vampire sisters leave their isolated home to live among humans in Daughters of Darkness. Their brother, Ash, is sent to bring the girls back, but he falls in love with their beautiful friend.

Two witch cousins fight over their high school crush. It's a battle between black magic and white magic in Spellbinder.

It is so loooooong overdue that I read this book. This will only be my second L. J. Smith book ever, I know, shame on me, but I am getting right on that!!!

Synopsis from BN.com: ALL THE SECRETS AND LORE OF THE
NIGHT WORLD-NOW IN ONE SPELLBINDING BOOK!

You loved Secret Vampire and are counting down to the Strange Fate apocalypse. But who was the first made vampire? How do you properly greet a witch? And why are shapeshifters and werewolves rivals? Prepare to test your Night World knowledge with trivia questions from all nine books; get the inside information about the clans, the soulmate principle, Circle Daybreak, and the four Wild Powers; and take two quizzes to find out how you fit into the Night World.

Best of all, L.J. Smith shares her inspiration for the series, answers the questions you've been asking, and even reveals fun facts about herself in this official guide. Plus, look for the sneak peek at the dramatic conclusion to the series, Strange Fate!

Ooooh the secrets of the Night World revealed!!!

I won this book from Alyssa, Jake, and Gregory from Teens Read and Write.

Synopsis from BN.com: "It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife."

So begins Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen's perfect comedy of manners--one of the most popular novels of all time--that features splendidly civilized sparring between the proud Mr. Darcy and the prejudiced Elizabeth Bennet as they play out their spirited courtship in a series of eighteenth-century drawing-room intrigues. "Pride and Prejudice seems as vital today as ever," writes Anna Quindlen in her introduction to this Modern Library edition. "It is a pure joy to read." Eudora Welty agrees: "The gaiety is unextinguished, the irony has kept its bite, the reasoning is still sweet, the sparkle undiminished. [It is] irresistible and as nearly flawless as any fiction could be."
I read this book like in the 7th grade and I loved it. Im glad to finally have my own copy of this great classic. Thanks you guys!!!

Synopsis from BN.com:  When the nineteenth—century ghost of Maria de Silva wakes her up in the middle of the night, Suze knows this is no ordinary visitation — and not just from the knife at her throat, either. In life, Maria was the fiancée of Jesse — the same Jesse who was murdered a hundred and fifty years before. The same Jesse Suze is in love with.

Maria threatens Suze: The backyard construction must cease. Suze has a pretty good idea what — or rather, who — Maria doesn't want found. But in solving Jesse's murder, will Suze end up losing him forever?

Finally, I have been re-reading the third book in this series for months, I hate putting off a series, but I finally got it, can't wait to read it!!!

Review: Need by. Carrie Jones

Title: Need
Author: Carrie Jones
Reading Level: 13+
Publication Date: December 2008
Pages: 306
Series: Captivate (sequal)
Rating: 9/10

Synopsis (BN.com): Zara White suspects there’s a freaky guy semi-stalking her. She’s also obsessed with phobias. And it’s true, she hasn’t exactly been herself since her stepfather died. But exiling her to shivery Maine to live with her grandmother? That seems a bit extreme. The move is supposed to help her stay sane . . . but Zara’s pretty sure her mom just can’t deal with her right now.

She couldn’t be more wrong. Turns out the semi-stalker is not a figment of Zara’s overactive imagination. In fact, he’s still following her, leaving behind an eerie trail of gold dust. There’s something not right—not human—in this sleepy Maine town, and all signs point to Zara.

In this creepy, compelling breakout novel, Carrie Jones delivers romance, suspense, and a creature you never thought you’d have to fear.

Review: Need is a mesmoririzing tale of fairies and shapeshifters coupled with a truly unique story of paranormal romance.

Zara was one of the most unique characters I have ever read about. She just gets weirder and more interesting with each page. First off dealing with the death of a parent, and then having her mother ship her off across the country to help her cope has to be one of the hardest things to deal with. To top it all off there is a mysterious man followig her cross country and stealing little boys from Maine. Zara finds solace from all these mishapts in her life by reciting phobias, a weird obsession of hers.  Zara is a strong herorine. With all the dangers placed in front of her and all the time trying to move on with her life past her father's death. She still stands strong throughout the pages, and is willing to sacrifice herself for the sake of her loved ones. Though sometimes I find myself yelling at the book for her reckless decsions, I mean who runs towards the scary voice calling your name in the woods, I know I don't.

The story pulls together very well. There is always a linkage. From discovering the true reason her mother sent her to Maine, who her stepfather real is, who her new love interest Nick real is, and the identity of the mysterious man who has been following her and leaving no trace except for gold dust. I loved the shy romance between Nick and Zara, it was so cute and dangerous at the same time as they find out the dark secrets they have been hiding from eachouther. So much mysterious creatures, new identity's, shocking discoveries, in every page.

The ending pretty much pulls the book together, but one solution leads to a new string of problems that I suspect will be the basis of the sequal. I recommend this book to all fans of paranormal, romance, and mystery books.

Waiting On Wednesday (8)

Oh Goodreads. You never let me down!!!
Look at the book I found today. It sounds like its going to be really good, the cover is extremely creepy, it reminds me of The Phantom of The Opera.

Guardian of the Dead by. Karen Healey
April 1st 2010
In less than a day I had been harassed, enchanted, shouted at, cried on, and clawed. I’d been cold, scared, dirty, exhausted, hungry, and miserable. And up until now, I’d been mildly impressed with my ability to cope.

At her boarding school in New Zealand, Ellie Spencer is like any ordinary teen: she hangs out with her best friend, Kevin; obsesses over her crush on a mysterious boy; and her biggest worry is her paper deadline. Then everything changes: In the foggy woods near the school, something ancient and deadly is waiting.

Karen Healey introduces a savvy and spirited heroine with a strong, fresh voice. Full of deliciously creepy details, this adventure is a deftly crafted story of Māori mythology, romance, betrayal, and war.

I love how pretty much every book coming out in 2010 is paranormal!!! It sounds really mysterious. The synopsis doesnt give away much, but that's part of makes it more curious!!!

Trailer Tuesday

I decided to go out of my usual only paranormal themes and venture into the deep dark world of chick-lit. Bold, I know, but some trailers are just too cute to resist.

Very cute, very intriguing. It sounds so adorable, and yet I can see how drama filled it is going to be. Just the way I like it. Find out more info on the book and read an excerpt on Renee Carter's website.

Review: He's With Me by. Tamara Summers

Title: He's With Me                                    Author: Tamara Summers
Reading Level: 13+
Publication Date: May 2007
Pages: 224
Series: Island Summer (I Heart Bikinis Series), What's Hot (I Heart Bikinis #3)
Rating: 8.5/10

Synopsis (from BN.com): Lexie has always had a crush on Jake, her brother Colin's best friend. But she knows Jake thinks of her like a sister, and has never made a move. But when beautiful alpha girl Bree McKennis sets her sights on Jake, he has to come up with a plan to turn her down...without incurring the wrath of the most popular girl in school. That's when Colin comes up with the plan: Lexie can pretend to be Jake's girlfriend. But Lexie has never had a real boyfriend, let alone a pretend one! Can she manage to convince Jake that they're meant to be...and avoid getting killed by Bree McKennis.

Review:  He's With Me by. Tamara Summers is an incredibly cute light read that will keep you laughing and indentifying with the main character throughout the book.

This book was one of the cutest books I have ever read. All Lexie wants is for her brother's best friend Jake to see her for more than his best friends sister. And when he asks her to pretend to be his girlfriend in order to rid the advances of one of the school's evil popular girls, she thinks this is her chance. I loved Lexie throughout the book. She is an easy character to sympathize with. Even if you are that usually confident girl, there is always that one guy that can make you for get yourself for a while, and Lexie is the perfect example of this.   Jake was the perfect leading male. I found myself shouting at him for being so oblivious, but then I had to remember, he is a guy.

The book just got better and better as I read. I kept finding yourself wondering if they will actually end up together in the end. Or will her new semi- kind of love interest take Jake's place in Lexie's heart. There are so many bumps going along with this pretend relationship, that Lexie begins to lose hope that there could ever be a real relationship between the two. I laughed, I oowed, and mostly I awwed at how hilarious and cute this book was.

In the end this book was quick light read, with a cute ending to tie it all together. Everything about this book keeps you incapable of putting it down. I reccommend this book to all those who love a good romantic comedy, a hilarious book, and a light read!!!

Waiting On Wednesday (7)

Other by. Karen Kincy, Release Date : July 1, 2010 (There is also a release date countdown on mysidebar)                                                                   Seventeen-year-old Gwen hides a dangerous secret: she’s Other. Half-pooka, to be exact, thanks to the father she never met. Most Americans don’t exactly roll out the welcome mat for Others, especially not the small-town folks of Klikamuks, Washington. As if this isn’t bad enough, Gwen’s on the brink of revealing her true identity to her long-time boyfriend, Zack, but she’s scared he’ll lump her with the likes of bloodthirsty vampires and feral werewolves.

When a pack of werewolves chooses the national forest behind Gwen’s home as their new territory, the tensions in Klikamuks escalate-into murder. It soon becomes clear a serial killer is methodically slaying Others. The police turn a blind eye, leaving Gwen to find the killer before the killer finds her. As she hunts for clues, she uncovers more Others living nearby than she ever expected. Like Tavian, a sexy Japanese fox-spirit who rivals Zack and challenges her to embrace her Otherness. Gwen must struggle with her own
conflicted identity, learn who she can trust, and-most importantly-stay alive.

A new addition to add to my ever growing werewolf obsession. Dosen't this book sound too great!!! A new twist to an ever growing topic!!!

Cover Crazinesss!!!

Look what GoodReads has decided to reward us with today. The Cover and Synopsis of Simon Elkeles sequal to her fantastic book Perfect Chemestry!!!! This time the book is about Alex's younger brother Carlos!!!

When Carlos Fuentes returns to America after living in Mexico for a year, he doesn’t want any part of the life his older brother, Alex, has laid out for him at a high school in Colorado. Carlos likes living his life on the edge and wants to carve his own path—just like Alex did. Then he meets Kiara Westford. She doesn’t talk much and is completely intimidated by Carlos’ wild ways. As they get to know one another, Carlos assumes Kiara thinks she’s too good for him, and refuses to admit that she might be getting to him. But he soon realizes that being himself is exactly what Kiara needs right now.

With new characters to fall in love with and the same hot romance found in Perfect Chemistry, Simone Elkeles has crafted another sure-fire hit for teens.

Could the cover be any cuter!!! That looks so awesome. Is that even humanly possibly. Plus the rain is the perfect touch. Things always look more romantic in the rain. One of the mystery's of the world. Anywayz... This book sounds like its going to be just as good as Perfect Chemestry, I absolutely adored that book and I suspect I'll love this on just as much. The release day is
April 27th 2010. I doubt I can wait that long!!!

Trailer Tuesday

This week's Trailer is for The Maze Runner by. James Dashner. All I've been hearing are the best things possible about this book. And then I just happen to stumble upon this awesomly creepy trailer which just gets me even more excited!!!

Review: Dead is the New Black

Title: Dead is the New Black
Author: Marlene Perez
Reading Level: 12+
Publication Date: September 2008
Pages: 208
Series: Dead is so Last Year, Dead is a State of Mind
Rating: 8/10

Synopsis: Welcome to Nightshade, California; a small town full of secrets. It's home to the pyschic Giordano sisters, who have a way of getting mixed up in mysteries. During their investigations, they run across everything from pom-pom-shaking vampires to shape-shifting boyfriends to a clue-spewing jukebox. With their psychic powers and some sisterly support, they can crack any case.

Teenage girls are being mysteriously attacked all over town, including at Nightshade High School, where Daisy Giordano is a junior. When Daisy discovers that a vampire may be the culprit, she can't help but suspect head cheerleader Samantha Devereaux, who returned from summer break with a new look; Samantha appears a little . . . well, dead, and all the most popular kids at school are copying her style.

Is looking dead just another fashion trend for Samantha, or is there something
more sinister going on? To find out, Daisy joins the cheerleading squad.

Review: Dead is the New Black is a short but great read. When I picked up this book at my library, first off loved the title, but since it was so short, I anticipated a cute very light read. Although this book is small it packs a huge punch, that you will have no choice but to go pick up the rest of these books in a hurry!!!

The main thing I loved about this book was how the mystery and suspence never stopped. Marlene Perez adds a new elements throughout the book keeping you guessing and trying to figure out who did it before the main character. Daisy comes from a family of phycics, and being the only non-phycic she really wants to find a way to help her mom with the new case. When a bunch girls from the cheerleading squad at her school start coming on with mysterious illnesses, she decides to there's only one thing she can do to help; infiltrate. I loved Daisy throughout the book. She was a likeable character, althought I find a lot of her choices a little reckless, and daring, but they actually made me like her more.

The plot for this book was fast paced, but not rushed. Along with the attacks going on Daisy has to worry about her sister dating a werewolf, her mom still searching for their missing father whom Daisy is convinced ran off with another woman, and her new best friend who seems to be becoming more than a best friend. But all elements were pieced together tastefully. The author keeps you guessing and trying to decipher the clues, as a good suspence book should. Overall it was a very enjoyable read.

I dont usually read suspence, but I cant deny anything paranormal, and this book fit the two together perfectly. It had the mystery, and suspence, accompanied with a little romance on the side. This book was really an interesting read, and it was the perfect set up for the next book. I can tell the next books in the series will be even better now that all the characters have solid roles and seem more developed.

The only thing I didnt really like about the book was that there seemed to be a lack of setting development. I couldn't really understand how one minute her town is just the typical small town, and the second minute the news is reporting there is a soul life sucking vampire is on the loose and no one really gives it a second thought. I couldn't really understand how the paranomal element just seemed to fit in too perfectly without any speculation.

The ending of the book was good. The mystery was resolved but I stilled had more questions that I wanted answered which I suspect will be done in the next books!!!

I reccommend  this book to all fans of suspence, mystery, paranormal, romance, and a quick read.

Waiting On Wednesday 6

The sequal to The Pace by Shelena Shorts. If you have not read the first book, you have to. I mean you really really do, it is awesome, one of my all time favorites. She just released the cover of the next book in the series, The Broken Lake. I love it, I love it , I love it!!! It is a beautiful cover and it compliments the cover for the first book ( below The Broken Lake cover) so well. Can't you just imagine how they'll look side by side on your bookshelf. Oh the beauty. I can't wait. If you haven't read or even heard of the first book, The Pace you can learn more about it on Shelena Short's Website  or on its Amazon.com page!!!

Trailer Tuesday

I've been waiting to read Leviathan for a long time. I have Scott Westerfeld to thank for my ever growing book obsession. I can't wait to read this book. I was at Barnes and Noble today and I saw it on the shelf. It looked so pretty just sitting there in its nice looking hardcover, but alas, 10 dollars just wasn't enough today!!! Someday Leviathan, someday.  Heres the awesome trailer!!!
